Overlay underfloor heating systems are designed for retrofit and renovation projects where available floor build-up is limited. Rather than embedding pipe deeply within a new screed, the pipe is installed within low-profile panels or boards positioned over an existing suitable floor.
This approach can make wet underfloor heating practical in extensions, refurbishments and room-by-room upgrades, subject to heat-loss calculations, subfloor condition and finished-floor requirements. Lower build-up can also reduce disruption compared with more invasive floor construction.
A complete overlay system normally requires compatible pipe, panels, manifolds, controls and installation accessories. Pipe spacing, circuit length and flow temperature should be properly designed rather than selected solely around available floor area.
