Preserving Heritage with Invisible, High-Performance Heating
St George’s Church in Benenden is a beautiful Grade II listed building with a rich history serving the local community. As part of a significant renovation project,
the church committee sought to modernise the internal environment to ensure the space remained welcoming and comfortable for congregations and visitors,
all while adhering to the strict preservation requirements associated with its historic fabric.
The mandate was clear: the system must be completely “invisible.” No visible pipework or radiators could clutter the historic interior. Furthermore, the
installation required the use of a specialist Limecrete floor construction – a breathable, sustainable material commonly used in heritage restoration, which
requires specific knowledge to ensure the underfloor heating performs correctly without damaging the floor build-up.
Multipipe partnered with Irwin Smith Ltd to deliver a bespoke solution. The success of the project relied on a close technical collaboration, with Multipipe’s
in-house team managing the design and pipe sizing for both the heating and the wider plumbing requirements.
